Islamabad United was chasing the target of 202 runs and then the legspinner came and showed a little magic.

Arif Yaqoob – First bowler to take four wickets in an over in PSL

At the end of 17 overs, Islamabad united were 173 for 3, chasing 202 runs. And then there was a big shock in his innings. Azam Khan walked off the stage after scoring 75 runs in only 30 balls, leaving room for a new hero to emerge.

29-year-old Arif Yaqoob, playing his 15th T20, created absolute magic by taking four wickets in one over of legspin. ESPNcricinfo recorded this momentum using its forecaster tool: In just those six balls, Peshawar Zalmi’s chances of victory increased from 37% to 91%. Here’s how it all unfolded.

We start from the 18th over, when the first domino fell

17.6 Naveen-ul-Haq to Azam Khan, out.

Gottim! Good length, oblique on middle, Azam swings and it is not through the line, Babar Azam at mid-off takes a brilliant catch under pressure. It’s a really brilliant catch and Peshawar is back in the contest. Azam Khan himself will get angry due to non-completion of the work. He was caught off guard by the hard length delivery and lost his shape while trying to bowl it down.

18.1 Arif Yaqoob to Munro, OUT

The crowd in Peshawar started roaring when someone else was chosen! Another set batsman out in quick succession! Yakub bowls beautiful, slow, mysterious and captivating legbreaks which never really reach him; Munro tried to hit it audaciously over long-on and Sundar Guile, beaten by the spin and bouncing down the track, made a complete mess of it. Hasibullah removed the bails in one fell swoop with sharp glovework and Munro had to make a long walk back to the pavilion. This is proving to be another nail biter!

18.2 Arif Yaqoob to Faheem, 1 run

Good bowling, not afraid of bounce and flight, gets good turn towards middle and leg, cuts off the pads and goes to backward square.

18.3 Arif Yaqoob to Haider Ali, out.

Taken at deep midwicket! Zalmi is on fire. Bowls a tasty legbreak away from off, tries to hit it down the leg side and doesn’t get it quite far. A big twist in the plot! Islamabad United is collapsing like a house of cards. This is not sensible batting by any means, everyone has tried to swing hard from the first ball itself.

18.4 Arif Yaqoob to Imad Wasim, 1 leg bye.

A legbreak float that has more twists than a mystery novel, Imad reverses his stance and tries to connect and wears it out on his pads.

18.5 Arif Yaqoob to Faheem out.

This is the madness of Islamabad! Attempting an unorthodox reverse sweep and playing poor shots at point. Luke Wood took a few steps to his left and patted him gently. Jacob is happily running everywhere! More was expected from Faheem, who has ample experience of international cricket, but it is not bad shot selection and judiciousness from the Islamabad legend. Meanwhile, Arif Yaqoob gets the fifer! Look at him, happiness was clearly visible on his face.

18.6 Arif Yaqoob to Hunnain Shah, out.

What’s going on there! Hunain gets down on one knee and takes a powerful swing. The ball hung in the air for a while but went straight to Rovman Powell who caught it brilliantly with big bucket hands. Suddenly there is an uproar! Yakubu continues to work match-changing magic
