CSK vs MI: Netizens surprised by Chennai’s start with Ajinkya Rahane, said ‘challenge every law..’

Rahane could not shine at Mumbai’s Wankhede and was out on the fourth ball of the second over, which was bowled by Gerald Coetzee. Rahane scored 5 runs in 8 balls.

Five-time defending champions Chennai Super Kings on Sunday made an unusual move by promoting reliable veteran Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane to the opening role when they play against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024.

However, Rahane could not shine at the Wankhede in Mumbai and was out on the fourth ball of the second over, which was bowled by Gerald Coetzee. Rahane scored 5 runs in 8 balls.

In the four matches where he batted this season, Rahane scored 27, 12, 45 and 35 at a strike rate of 125.25.

After Rahane’s dismissal against Mumbai Indians, the fans were disappointed and expressed their disappointment.

Here are some reactions:
Gagan Chawla wrote, “Rahane opening in 2024, CSK is challenging every law that exists in this mighty universe!”

Mohit Shah commented, “The last time Ajinkya Rahane faced MI at Wankhede he was really in his element. Perhaps this is what prompted CSK to open with him, but why change what is clearly working well.”

Another social media user wrote, “El Clasico has already surprised us with Rahane’s opening.”

It was expected that if Rahane is promoted as an opening batsman, it would be good for the team as Rahane has batted practically his entire career at the Wankhede Stadium. Rahane plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket and is currently the captain of the team.

In his previous appearance for CSK at the Wankhede Stadium in 2023, Rahane scored 61 runs off just 27 balls while batting at number three.
