For the first time in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the auction was held outside India (in Dubai). A huge amount was spent on players in the IPL Mini-Auction 2024. The two Australian world champions won the room and walked out with a ton of money in their pockets. Australian captain Pat Cummins was the first player in the history of the league to receive a bid of Rs 20 crore.

In the last 3-4 seasons, huge amount has been spent on players in auction and retention. IPL 2024 begins with a high-voltage encounter between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22 in Chennai. 10.Ishan Kishan (MI) – Rs 15.25 crore

Ishan Kishan is currently facing criticism for not participating in Indian domestic tournaments. But, Kishan was one of the most expensive players after the IPL Mega Auction 2022.

Due to the obligation to retain only four players before the mega auction, Mumbai Indians had released Ishan Kishan, but Mumbai bought him for Rs 15.25 crore.

9. Ravindra Jadeja (CSK) – Rs 16 crore

Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was retained as the first priority player ahead of the IPL mega auction in 2022. He was also made the team captain that season.

Chennai Super Kings gave Rs 16 crore as salary to Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja is paid more than former CSK captain MS Dhoni who won five IPL titles with the team.

8. Rishabh Pant (DC) – Rs 16 crore

Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has also been retained as the first priority player being the captain of the team. Pant led Delhi Capitals to the playoffs in IPL 2021.

Capitals pay Rs 16 crore to Rishabh Pant as salary in the Indian Premier League. Pant was ruled out of IPL 2023 due to a fatal car accident in December 2022.

7. Rohit Sharma (MI) – Rs 16 crore

A few months ago, Hardik Pandya was made the captain of the team in place of former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma. Sharma was Mumbai’s first choice to retain ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction and he was paid Rs 16 crore by the franchise.

He is currently ranked seventh among the highest-paid players in IPL 2024. Rohit Sharma will play as a pure batsman for Mumbai in IPL 2024.

6. Nicholas Pooran (LSG) – Rs 16 crore

Nicholas Pooran is one of the finest and most sought-after middle-order batsmen in T20 cricket. West Indies is also among the highest paid players in the Indian Premier League.

Nicholas Pooran was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 16 crore in the IPL 2023 mini-auction. Recently, Lucknow announced Puran as their vice-captain.

5. KL Rahul (LSG) – Rs 17 crore

KL Rahul was drafted by Lucknow Super Giants from Punjab Kings. KL Rahul was leading the Punjab Kings till IPL 2021. Lucknow Super Giants made their debut in IPL 2022, where they were given the option to select a few players from the draft.

KL Rahul was their first choice and highest paid player with a salary of Rs 17 crore. Rahul is also the captain of Lucknow Super Giants.

4. Cameron Green (RCB) – Rs 17.5 crore

Cameron Green was a part of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023 and did a great job for the franchise. Green was traded to Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 17.5 crore to make way for Gujarat Titans all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Cameron Green will play for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2024.

3. Sam Curran (PBKS) – Rs 18.5 crore

Punjab Kings all-rounder Sam Curran was the most expensive player in the IPL until two Australian players broke the record. The Kings spent Rs 18.5 crore on the English all-rounder who performed brilliantly in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Sam Curran attracted bids from several teams, but the Punjab Kings paddler was the match-winner on the day.

2. Pat Cummins (SRH) – INR 20.5 crore

Australian captain Pat Cummins had a great year in 2023 and got the second highest bid in the Indian Premier League. Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Cummins for Rs 20.5 crore and he became the first player to get more than Rs 20 crore in IPL.


Cummins won two ICC titles as captain of Australia. He won the ICC World Test Championship as well as the ODI World Cup 2023 and was also appointed to lead his new IPL franchise.

1. Mitchell Starc (KKR) – Rs 24.75 crore

Right after Pat Cummins’s Rs 20.5 crore bid, his teammate Mitchell Starc became the highest-paid player in the IPL.

Starc earned Rs 24.75 crore from two-time Indian Premier League title winners Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR and Gujarat Titans had a tough bidding war with each other before Kolkata made the winning bid.
