The New Zealand Cricket Board made headlines on social media when it announced its 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States in June. In a post shared by the Blackcaps on social media, NZC sent two children, a girl named Matilda and a boy named Angus, to announce the players who were shortlisted for the biennial event.

The children enthusiastically announced the names of the players and congratulated them at the end. Veteran batsman Kane Williamson will take charge of the 2021 runners-up for the fourth time in his career. Meanwhile, fast bowler Tim Southee will represent the Blackcaps for the seventh time and will go on to become the leading wicket-taker in this format. He will also be accompanied by Trent Boult, who has confirmed his place in the T20 World Cup team for the fifth time. The team will include other legends including Mark Chapman, Jimmy Neesham and Michael Bracewell.

New Zealand coach Gary Stead happily congratulated the players selected for the team, “I’d like to congratulate all the players named today. It’s a special time to represent your country at a world tournament.”

While the team has experienced players, it also provides added advantage as six players have already played in the Caribbean Premier League in the West Indies.

“We expect the West Indies venues to offer quite a variety of conditions and we feel we have selected a team with the scope to adapt to those conditions.”

Fast bowler Matt Henry and all-rounder Rachin Ravindra have been on top this season as they look to make the T20 World Cup squad for the first time.

“Matt has worked exceptionally hard on his skills at all stages of the T20 game to be considered for selection,” Stead said.

“Rachin has been a winner at every post over the last 12 months and it was exciting to see him continue the same trajectory in the T20 format against Australia over the summer.”
