Virat Kohli could not make a strong start to his Test career and was dropped from the team after his first series itself. MS Dhoni supported Virat on the Australia tour in 2011/12 and did not drop him despite his poor performances. There was a big change soon after MS Dhoni stepped down from the white-ball captaincy and R Ashwin lost his place in ODIs and T20Is in 2017. Ashwin made his comeback in 2021, but was never a regular. Ravindra Jadeja

MS Dhoni always had faith in Ravindra Jadeja and wanted him to become India's first-choice all-rounder. Jadeja, who made his debut under Dhoni, cemented his place under the great captain. Despite taking 10 wickets in 2013, Jadeja was selected over Pragyan Ojha.                                                                                                          Credit: AP
